Massage Techniques

I am certified in Swedish, Myofascial Release, Shiatsu, and Guasha massage therapies. All three methods listed below are incorporated into each massage (unless a medical condition/injury would prohibit all treatment types). Aromatherapy, Stress Relief Treatments, and canine music therapy are incorporated into each massage.

Swedish.

Maintenance and Relaxation Massage. Swedish massage is also known as traditional massage.

Effleurage, Petrissage and Tapotement are the techniques that make up Swedish Massage.

Effleurage is a form of massage involving a circular stroking movement made with the palm of the hand. This is a soothing, stroking movement used at the beginning and the end of the massage.

Petrissage is used to free up movement of tissues and muscle by treating muscle knots or spasms. The technique uses squeezing which can alleviate muscle spasm.

Tapotement is a rhythmic percussion, most frequently administered with the edge of the hand, a cupped hand or the tips of the fingers.

Myofascial Release.

Fascia is a thin, tough, elastic type of connective tissue that wraps, supports and protects most structures within the body, including muscle. All types of massage involve treating the fascia to some degree. Myofascial techniques claim to isolate and release fascial tension by using gentle sustained pressure on the tissue.

Shiatsu.

Shiatsu is a technique that involves manual pressure applied to specific points on the body to relieve tension and pain. According to the Japanese healing treatment, Shiatsu (which means finger pressure) massage uses pressure at certain energy pathways in the body called meridians. The massage also known as acupressure works to reduce muscle tension and fatigue and is thought to improve blood circulation as well as improve function of the lymphatic system.
