Overview

I provide a holistic and noninvasive approach to healing and treat conditions such as aging, arthritis, anxiety, and minor mobility issues. I have extensive experience in working with dogs with anxiety. Services provided include a wellness plan to maintain healthy muscular and cellular systems, designed to keep your pup flexible and feeling young. Light stretching is included during most massage therapy sessions which can help prevent injuries, especially in athletic and geriatric dogs. I use several modalities listed below. I can also help with skin conditions and wound healing through cold laser therapy and natural topical ointments. I’m happy to offer hydrotherapy in a state-of-the-art underwater treadmill at Barkingham Pet Hotel California as well as in-home hydrotherapy for toy to medium-sized dogs.

CANINE MASSAGE THERAPY

Canine massage therapy is a specialized and nurturing practice designed to promote the physical and emotional well-being of our dogs. I use deliberate techniques to target specific muscle groups, providing a range of benefits.

Your dog’s massage therapy session will last up to 45 minutes (Puppies under one year of age up to 30 minutes depending on touch tolerance.)

Benefits:

  • Pain Relief: Massage helps alleviate discomfort associated with arthritis, injuries, or muscular tension.

  • Improved Circulation: The therapy enhances blood flow, promoting better oxygenation and nutrient delivery to cells.

  • Increased Flexibility: Regular massage sessions contribute to improved joint flexibility and a fuller range of motion.

  • Stress Reduction: Dogs, like humans, can experience stress, and massage is an effective way to induce relaxation and reduce anxiety.

  • Enhanced Bonding: The hands-on nature of massage fosters a deeper connection between the pet and its owner or massage therapist.

  • Faster Recovery: For dogs recovering from surgery or injury, massage accelerates the healing process by reducing inflammation and promoting tissue regeneration.

  • Better Sleep Quality: Relaxing massage sessions can contribute to improved sleep patterns and overall restfulness for the dog.

  • Emotional Well-being: Massage has a positive impact on a dog's mental health, providing comfort and a sense of security.

ANTI-ANXIETY THERAPIES

MASSAGE

Canine massage therapy and in many cases adding hydrotherapy is the place to start for dogs with various types of anxiety. Massage is combined with music created specifically to calm dogs, and aromatherapy. This session is very good for dogs who don’t have the opportunity to meet many people. It’s good for their body and their mind, to be touched through massage. I focus on destressing points and therapeutic touch while providing a relaxing massage. Customized to the needs of your dog.

HYDROTHERAPY

Warm water “floats”, with relaxing swaying motions can help relax the body and mind. This is a good place to start. The underwater treadmill can also be used to walk the anxiety off generally by having the water at low to mid-level. If your dog likes to swim, that gives the anxiety even more of a place to go.

Your dog’s float and/or swim session will be a 30-minute session with up to 20 minutes of activity in the water.

Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology taping for dogs is an innovative therapeutic technique that involves the application of elastic tape to the dog's body, providing support and promoting healing. The tape is designed to mimic the skin's elasticity, allowing for a full range of motion while providing gentle support to muscles and joints. This technique is particularly beneficial for dogs recovering from injuries or surgery, as it helps reduce swelling, improve circulation, and support the natural healing process. Kinesiology taping is non-invasive and can be used in conjunction with other rehabilitation therapies to enhance the overall well-being of our canine companions.

The benefits of kinesiology taping extend beyond physical support; it also aids in proprioception, helping dogs become more aware of their body movements. Whether your dog is an athlete in need of injury prevention or a senior pup seeking joint support, kinesiology taping stands out as a versatile and effective tool in the realm of canine rehabilitation and wellness.

Elevating all services are:

Aromatherapies:

Diffuser - I have seen the benefits of calming aromas dispersed by vapors with my own dogs and many others. During all massages, I incorporate a diffuser to help calm and relax your special pup.

Topical - Rescue Remedy aromas are used at the start of most massages. This scent is placed on my hands and held so your pooch can smell and enjoy the scents. It can be safely rubbed on the dog’s ear, nose, or paws so they may enjoy the benefits for a while. Rescue Remedy has been used for decades and was specifically formulated to calm your dog.

Music Therapy:

Clinically developed and tested music is played during your pet’s massage. The music uses psychoacoustic techniques that naturally trigger relaxation or stimulated responses.
